Abstract
This paper examines the link between Narrative and Suicide as found in Wertherfeiber and the trend of suicide/self-harm following Netflix's thirteen reasons why. Depression is treated as a system of the mind arising from logical constructions, using Aaron Beck's work to come to an understanding of how a characteristically negative world view can form. Following is an examination of Suicide as a logical conclusion arising from a certain interpretation of reality. The investigation concludes with an examination of the processes of Externalization and Freud's Identification to explain how these narratives were particularly dangerous in moving its audience towards the suicidal impulse. Throughout, the study is supported with both psychological source documentation and analysis of classic english literature.
