Abstract
Disembodied brains have been a major literary element for centuries from CS Lewis' "That Hideous Strength" to Madeleine L'Engles’ “A Wrinkle in Time.” However, it is only in the past 25 years that we have begun to grow these brain organoids to fly airplanes, translate speech to text, and solve other general problems. In my thesis, I review the methods and progress of organoid intelligence (OI) to date, discuss what it means to be intelligent and human in light of these organoids, and lay out some guidelines on how we should interact with these organoids.
